AFTER 1,500 DAYS IN A SHELTER SHE WONDERS IF SHE’LL EVER FIND A HOME

Meet Shyla, the shy pup who made her way to the Humane Society of Naples back in 2020 after being found all alone on the streets. This sweet girl was super nervous around new faces and needed a little extra time to feel at ease. But her rescuers held onto hope that this lovable furball would find her forever home soon.

t’s a heartbreaking reality that Shyla is still waiting for her forever family—over 1,500 days and counting. It’s time to change that!

Once Shyla warms up to someone, she turns into an absolute bundle of energy—playful, goofy, and ready for fun! But let’s not forget, her time in the shelter has shaped her in ways that are hard to shake off.

Patrizia Vila, the events and outreach coordinator at the Humane Society of Naples, shared some insights about a special pup that’s been through a lot. “Her character is still the same, but you can tell the shelter has made an impact,” she told The Dodo.

This furry friend tends to snooze through the mornings, barely reacting when the staff arrives. But the real magic happens when they wake her up for some fun. “The best times for her are when we wake her up, play with her out in the yard or go on a run to get a pup cup with her.”

Despite the joy of those moments, there’s a lingering sadness in her eyes. “There is a sadness in her eyes, even on her good days, as she cannot spend more time with the people she loves.” It’s a reminder of the love and connection she craves.

Shyla’s friends at the shelter are pulling out all the stops to help her find a forever home, but her shyness around new folks has made things a bit complicated.

Vila shared, “Shyla might need a few encounters to get close to someone, and most people aren’t ready to commit to several meetings with a dog to take [them] home.” It looks like Shyla might just need that special someone willing to put in the time!

Shyla’s rescuers are doing their best to keep her comfy in the shelter, but what she really craves is a loving forever home. This sweet girl can get along with another dog, but she’d rather skip the chaos of young kids. Patience is key when it comes to earning her trust, but once she feels secure, all she wants is to shower you with love. Give Shyla the home she deserves!
