Dallas actress Priscilla Pointer has passed away at the age of 100, her family has confirmed.
The Hollywood soap star, who featured in the David Lynch movie Blue Velvet, died “peacefully in her sleep” on April 28 at an assisted living facility in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, her family wrote, “Priscilla Pointer, acclaimed stage television and film actress, and mother of David, Katie, and Amy Irving, died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100, hopefully to run off with her 2 adoring husbands and her many dogs. She most definitely will be missed.”
Her grandson Gabriel Barreto also paid tribute to her on Instagram and shared various throwback photos alongside the a caption which read: “My grandmother, legend of stage and screen, Priscilla Pointer passed away peacefully in her sleep yesterday at 100 years old.
“She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a true gift to the craft of acting. She was vibrant and witty, had cheekbones that could cut glass, and loved dogs. She will be missed by so many,” he added.
Pointer passed away just weeks before another milestone birthday, as she was due to turn 101 on May 18.
The New York City born actress was known for her various movie roles, as well as portraying Rebecca Barnes Wentworth in the popular TV series Dallas from 1981 until 1983.
Pointer began her career in the theater in the late 1940s, including productions on Broadway, and she later moved to Hollywood and made appearances on television starting in the early 1950s.
Her big break in the movie world came when she landed the role of Eleanor Snell in the 1976 horror movie Carrie, which starred Sissy Spacek as the titular character.
Pointer went on to star in over 25 movies, including Looking for Mr. Goodbar, Mommie Dearest, and A Nightmare on Elm Street 3.
Fans paid tribute to the iconic actress on X, formerly known as Twitter, as one person wrote: “Sad to hear of the death of Priscilla Pointer. She was a great actress. Great in loads of iconic things like Dallas, Blue Velvet, Mommie Dearest, but I loved her most as the mean therapist in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, 80s geek that I am. Rest in peace.”
Another person said: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Priscilla Pointer who’s roles included Carrie and Blue Velvet and among others,” and a third wrote: “Rest in peace, Priscilla Pointer, known as Dr. Simms in Dream Warriors and Mrs. Snell from Carrie. She was almost 101.”
