They grabbed each other’s hands just seconds after birth — and refused to let go The photo of these rare “mono mono” twins went viral in 2014… but what do Jillian and Jenna look like today? Their bond is still unbreakable. See the then-and-now in this article
In 2014, something very special happened in Ohio, USA. A pair of newborn twin girls surprised everyone when they held hands just seconds after being born. We found out how Jillian and Jenna are doing today.
The girls were born on May 9 into the Sisk-White family. As soon as doctors delivered them, they reached for each other and grabbed hands tightly. The moment was so touching that doctors had to gently separate their little fingers to examine them properly.
Photos of the girls quickly spread around the world and touched the hearts of many. But the parents, especially their mother Sarah, surely felt even more emotions. Sarah had a difficult pregnancy. She spent nearly the last two months in the hospital to make sure the babies could grow enough to be born safely.
The doctors wanted her to carry the pregnancy until at least the 33rd week. Jillian and Jenna weren’t just any twins. They were what doctors call “monoamniotic” or “mono mono” twins — a very rare condition that happens in only one out of every ten thousand pregnancies. These types of twins share the same amniotic sac and placenta in the womb.
Because of this, there are higher risks, such as one baby developing slower or even getting tangled in the umbilical cord, which can be very dangerous.
Thankfully, both girls were born healthy and strong. They were delivered just 45 seconds apart, and from the start, they refused to let go of each other’s hands. The moment moved everyone — even the doctors and nurses cried.
After gaining enough weight, the girls were sent home. Sarah and her husband Bill were happy to finally have their daughters home and started watching them grow.
The twins remained close and rarely wanted to be apart. If Bill took one to the store while the other stayed with Sarah, both girls would miss each other terribly.
As they grew, they did everything together. They held hands often and loved being near each other. By the time they turned 7, they were still very close.
The girls look nearly identical, and sometimes even act the same way. Their mom Sarah says they’re like “two peas in a pod.” They enjoy the same foods, love swimming, and often play with the same toys.
Still, as they get older, some differences have started to show. For example, Jenna tends to be more cautious, while Jillian is a bit braver. Sarah hopes that their strong bond will continue for the rest of their lives.
