Rosie O’Donnell hits back on Trump after threat of revoking her citizenship

Posted on July 18, 2025

Donald Trump and Rosie O’Donnell’s feud has flared up once again, this time with Trump threatening to revoke the comedian’s U.S. citizenship. Rosie, who moved to Ireland in early 2025 with her nonbinary child, said she left the U.S. after Trump’s re-election and concerns about Project 2025. “I knew it was time to go,” she told CNN. “I’ve never once regretted the move.”

Their feud dates back to 2006, when O’Donnell criticized Trump on The View, calling him a “snake-oil salesman.” Trump retaliated with insults, calling her a “loser” and “fat.” Over the years, the two have exchanged public jabs, but this time the fight took a more serious tone.

On Truth Social, Trump claimed Rosie was “not in the best interests of our Great Country” and said he was “seriously considering” stripping her citizenship, calling her a “threat to humanity.”

Legal experts immediately pushed back. Constitutional scholars, including CNN’s Steve Vladeck, pointed out that revoking the citizenship of a U.S.-born citizen is unconstitutional and nearly impossible under American law.

Rosie fired back on Instagram:

“Go ahead and try, King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan. I’m not yours to silence.”

She later spoke on RTÉ Radio 1 in Ireland, calling Trump a “racist, sexist, and a danger to the world.” While she admitted he likely can’t legally revoke her citizenship, she warned about the Supreme Court’s growing power and his pattern of overreach.

For O’Donnell, leaving America wasn’t just personal—it was a protest, a matter of safety and identity. And while she’s now living in Ireland, her voice remains loud and clear in the ongoing debates around freedom, leadership, and democracy in the U.S.
