Ticks are tiny parasites that feed on blood and can spread serious illnesses like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. They’re most active in warmer months and can latch onto humans and pets without notice.
My Experience
Last summer, my dog kept picking up ticks no matter how careful we were. One night, I found three—on his ears, neck, and belly. It was my first time dealing with ticks, and I was nervous but had to act fast.
How to Remove a Tick Safely
Stay Calm: Avoid squeezing the tick’s body.
Use Fine-Tipped Tweezers: Grab the tick close to the skin.
Pull Straight Out: Don’t twist; pull steadily and slowly.
Disinfect: Clean the bite area and your tools with soap and alcohol.
Save the Tick (optional): In case symptoms arise later.

When to See a Vet or Doctor
Seek help if:
The tick is deeply embedded.
You notice a rash, fever, or behavior changes.
You’re unsure how long the tick was attached.
I took my dog to the vet the next day for peace of mind.

Preventing Tick Bites
Use tick preventatives monthly.
Avoid tall grass and wooded areas.
Check pets (and yourself) after walks.
Keep your yard trimmed.
Wear long sleeves and light colors when hiking.
Final Thoughts
Ticks are gross—but manageable. Know how to remove them, watch for symptoms, and talk to a vet or doctor if you’re unsure. A little awareness goes a long way.
