Kevin Bacon recently opened up about a disturbing event during the filming of his 1998 movie Wild Things. While promoting his new Prime Video series The Bondsman in an interview with Variety, Bacon recalled a night on set when the crew made a shocking discovery.
“We were out in the swamp one night—there were a lot of mosquitoes—and we were filming by a river,” Bacon said. The crew had floated a raft on the water to place a light for shooting a scene. Suddenly, Bacon heard someone on the walkie-talkie say, “Hey, I think I just saw a floater.” It turned out to be a dead body drifting by.
Kevin joked that the eerie sight fit the movie’s tone perfectly. The director of the film, John McNaughton, also described the incident in a past Entertainment Weekly interview. He said that filming was paused while they waited for police to arrive and remove the body so it wouldn’t appear in the shot.
Wild Things is a neo-noir thriller set in the wealthy Blue Bay, Florida community. The story follows high school guidance counselor Sam Lombardo, who faces rape accusations from two students, Kelly Van Ryan and Suzie Toller. Detective Ray Duquette, played by Bacon, investigates, uncovering lies, greed, and deception.
The film stars Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, Theresa Russell, and Bill Murray, with direction by John McNaughton.
