The tragedy unfolded when officers were called to the Reiner’s residence in Brentwood, Los Angeles, around Sunday afternoon. Despite their efforts, Rob and Michele Reiner were declared deceased upon the officers’ arrival, around 3:40 p.m.
Later that night, the son, Nick Reiner, aged 32, was located in South Los Angeles, not far from USC. He was promptly arrested on suspicion of the murders at approximately 9:15 p.m.
Offering his sympathies, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell expressed condolences during a press conference on Monday, describing the situation as a “tragic incident.” He conveyed heartfelt regards to the family and friends of the Reiner family.
While the detailed motives remain uncertain, reports have surfaced suggesting a confrontation between Rob and Nick at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party earlier on that Sunday evening.
The Events Leading to the Hotel Stay

After leaving the Christmas gathering, Nick headed to a hotel. Reports from TMZ state that he checked into The Pierside Santa Monica at around 4 a.m. Sunday morning, using a credit card, yet he left no official checkout trace.
An eyewitness, as cited by TMZ, observed Nick checking into the hotel. Although he appeared agitated, there were no initial visible signs that indicated a violent encounter.
Despite having no physical signs of injuries or blood on him, the hotel staff made a spine-chilling discovery early Sunday. They found the shower splattered with blood, more blood was on the bed, and the window was obscured with bed sheets.
LAPD Robbery-Homicide detectives spent Monday gathering evidence and conducting interviews with hotel employees.
