President Trump spoke of Kirk as a “giant of his generation” and noted that the nation is collectively mourning, while Vance highlighted how Kirk “changed the course of history.” Erika Kirk’s emotional appeal for people to “choose Christ,” along with her decision to forgive her husband’s killer, moved the audience, resulting in a standing ovation.
An Old War Weapon
Charlie Kirk, aged 31, was tragically killed on September 10 while speaking at a Turning Point USA event hosted at Utah Valley University.
Authorities revealed that the firearm used was not an ordinary hunting rifle but a potentially untraceable, old weapon.
The gun was identified as a Mauser Model 98 .30-06 caliber bolt-action rifle, a firearm originally from Germany and extensively used during World Wars.
Officials indicated that this weapon might even be older than the 1968 U.S. legislation—passed post the John F. Kennedy assassination—which mandated serial numbers on all firearms to prevent tracking difficulties.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) reported that incidents involving this type of rifle are exceptionally rare.
Medical Insights After the Incident
In the aftermath of Kirk’s death, a remarkable detail emerged: his physical body possibly prevented further casualties. The surgeon who attempted to save Kirk explained that the bullet didn’t travel as anticipated. Instead of passing through, it halted within his neck.
The surgeon conveyed, “The bullet was supposed to pass through, which is typical for such a high-powered caliber. I’ve treated similar gun wounds numerous times; they always penetrate through. These rounds can typically bring down large animals like moose or elk easily,” explained TPUSA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet.
Kolvet added: “Yet, it didn’t go through. Charlie’s body halted its path.”
The surgeon informed Kolvet that Kirk’s exceptional bone strength could have been the saving factor.
“Miraculously, no one else was harmed. His bones were incredibly dense, akin to the ‘man of steel.’ It was expected to pierce through and potentially harm those nearby,” the doctor explained.
A Subject of Investigation
Kolvet mentioned that the coroner uncovered the bullet just below Kirk’s skin.
“Even in passing, Charlie managed to protect lives around him,” Kolvet noted.
The FBI apprehended Tyler Robinson, their primary suspect, turned in by his own family. Despite this, Robinson’s grandmother firmly believes in his innocence.
“I find it hard to believe he even knows how to shoot a gun,” stated Debbie Robinson, his grandmother. “He’s not into hunting or firearms. He certainly doesn’t possess any. The idea of him being such a marksman is just implausible.”
Prior to his arrest, Robinson allegedly jested with friends about the unclear surveillance images showing a slim man in disguise.
