A former New York Police Department hostage negotiator has raised a troubling theory regarding the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy. Wallace Zeins, whose expertise lies in high-stakes negotiations, suggests that more than one person might be involved in this unsettling case.
According to Zeins, the likelihood of Nancy, at 84 years old, being taken from her Tucson, Arizona home late at night by a single individual seems improbable. “Nancy is around 150 pounds, stands 5 feet 5 inches tall, and given her age and health, it’s hard to imagine someone acting alone in her abduction,” Zeins shared on CNN.
Current Findings in the Case
The last confirmed sighting of Nancy was on the night of January 31, after dining with her daughter Annie. Concern arose when Nancy missed her church service the next day, leading to her being reported missing by noon.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has ruled out the possibility of Nancy wandering off alone, given she does not suffer from any cognitive issues.
“Nancy is sharp as ever,” Sheriff Nanos assured. “Her family wants everyone to understand she didn’t just wander off.”
Investigators, upon searching her home, found Nancy’s Apple Watch but noted it had stopped working with her pacemaker around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday. This detail disturbs investigators deeply, paired with video evidence of potential blood stains near her door, the origin of which police have yet to confirm.

CNN’s Josh Campbell warned of the influx of information that could mislead or complicate the investigation further, stressing a methodical approach to credible leads.
“High-profile cases tend to attract numerous tips, some helpful, others misleading or even malicious,” Campbell shared.
Candice DeLong, a former FBI profiler, added that in similar cases involving elderly victims, the assailant is often someone they know.

Zeins explained the aim could be to discern whether Nancy was moved through nearby areas or taken from the vicinity directly.
