In the depths of the newly unveiled Epstein files, a 2009 witness report surfaces, detailing the sighting of a young girl resembling Madeleine McCann, allegedly accompanied by a woman looking like Ghislaine Maxwell.

Madeleine McCann was just a tender 3-year-old when she disappeared on May 3, 2007, while vacationing with her family at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
During that time, her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann – ages 40 and 39 – were enjoying a dinner with friends at a nearby restaurant, approximately 100 yards from the apartment where Madeleine and her two-year-old twin siblings were peacefully sleeping. Upon returning to check on the children, Kate discovered Madeleine was missing.
The police were immediately alerted, and a search involving staff and guests was initiated, with border and airport officials notified without delay.
Portuguese investigators initially postulated that Madeleine had been kidnapped, releasing a description of a man reportedly observed carrying a child that evening.
The case quickly spiraled into ‘the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history,’ attracting global media scrutiny, immense police resources, and years of ongoing inquiries. Despite widespread international cooperation and numerous leads, Madeleine has never been found.
Maddie’s Mention in Epstein Files
Approximately 19 years later, Madeleine’s name surprisingly emerged within documents tied to Jeffrey Epstein’s prosecution and the 2021 conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell on charges related to child sex trafficking.
The reference is located in a singular witness statement within millions of pages unsealed by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Dated July 7, 2020, the statement originates from an unidentified UK witness who claimed to have spotted the young girl in the autumn of 2009, and subsequently reported it to local police at the time.
“In September 2009, while living on [redacted] road, I encountered a quiet Sunday. Turning off my street onto the main road, I found myself walking behind a woman and a little girl,” the witness elaborated.
‘Held Her Hand Over Her Right Eye’
“Accompanying them was a middle-aged man, walking much farther ahead.
“Upon nearing the girl, I noticed her resemblance to Madeleine McCann. The woman appeared eager to hurry her along, seemingly unsettled by my presence. The little girl consistently kept her hand over her right eye as we walked. She repeatedly turned to glance at me…”
The account, submitted to the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center (NTOC), continued: “Didn’t dwell on it until years later upon seeing a Facebook post about [Ghislaine] Maxwell and the theory implicating her in Madeleine McCann’s abduction. The woman I observed looked remarkably like Ghislaine Maxwell. I notified the police of the sighting and decided to report it to you as well.”
A noteworthy detail in the statement captures attention: the child’s tendency to hold her hand over her right eye. Madeleine suffered from a rare eye condition called coloboma – a unique smudge in her right pupil that could contribute to light sensitivity, highlighted repeatedly in public appeals.
Posh Spice Lookalike
The resurfaced document renews interest in earlier leads from 2009, including an Electronic Facial Identification Technique (e-fit) image commissioned by the McCann family’s private investigators.
At that time, British media covered a composite image of a woman described as a “Victoria Beckham lookalike,” estimated to be between 30 and 35.
Coincidentally, that year, both Beckham and Maxwell sported short, black hairstyles.
The sighting placed the woman in Barcelona mere days after Madeleine’s disappearance, leading investigators to explore inquiries beyond Portugal.
However, no law enforcement agency has substantiated any link between the image and Maxwell, nor have officials suggested that it altered the investigation’s direction.
‘Production May Include Fake’ Information
Despite revived debate online, U.S. and UK authorities emphasize that the reference doesn’t constitute convincing evidence linking Madeleine’s disappearance to Epstein or Maxwell.
“This archive may include fabricated or falsely submitted images, documents, or videos, as all submissions to the FBI from the public were incorporated into the Act-compliant production,” clarified the DOJ in a press release.
This lone account within the vast document collection hasn’t spurred renewed investigative action, nor have any agencies suggested it connects the McCann case with Epstein’s activities.
