Can You Identify This ’60s TV Star? 😮🤔Her Life is Full of Unbelievable Surprises!

Posted on May 23, 2026

Shirley MacLaine, the legendary film icon of the 1960s, continues to captivate audiences even at 90 years old. Her Hollywood career, which began in 1955 with The Trouble with Harry, includes unforgettable performances in The Apartment, Irma la Douce, and Terms of Endearment. Although she has taken a step back from the spotlight in recent years, she remains passionate about acting, still finding joy and growth with each new role.

However, her personal life has been far from simple. MacLaine was married to film producer Steve Parker for 28 years, although their marriage ended in 1982. They had one daughter, Sachi Parker, who spent much of her childhood with her father in Japan while Shirley’s career kept her in America. Despite their open marriage, the physical distance didn’t lessen their friendship, but it did affect Shirley’s relationship with her daughter.

MacLaine’s dedication to her career often took precedence over motherhood, as she believed that throwing herself into work kept her from experiencing frustration or regret. This, influenced by the sacrifices made by her own mother, led to a challenging dynamic with Sachi. As she revealed in her memoir Lucky Me: My Life With — and Without — My Mom, Sachi often felt emotionally distant from Shirley, experiencing loneliness during her childhood, especially when living between continents and attending boarding school in Europe.

In her memoir, Sachi portrays her mother as somewhat distant, with their differing views on family life contributing to emotional rifts. While Shirley embraced a more non-traditional, independent lifestyle, Sachi yearned for the warmth of a conventional family and struggled with the emotional void she felt, particularly during her teenage years when she often spent holidays alone.

Now, as Shirley embraces a quieter phase of life, living on her New Mexico ranch, her relationship with her daughter has evolved but remains complicated. Shirley is focused on finding personal fulfillment, surrounded by close friends and her beloved dogs. Meanwhile, Sachi, now a mother herself, reflects on her own upbringing and strives to create a more stable and loving environment for her own children, using her past experiences to shape her future relationships.
