My grandson was moving out, and even though I wished I could give him something grand, my budget was limited. When I handed it to him, he barely glanced at it before returning to his packing.
I forced a smile so he wouldn’t notice the disappointment hiding behind it, though my heart quietly wondered whether the gift meant anything to him at all. The next morning, my daughter called, her voice warm and emotional, telling me to check my front porch.
