Lucy was turning two, and her single mother couldn’t afford much of a party. Noah adored her and became convinced she needed the red dress he’d seen in a store window.

Terrified, Noah yelled:

She explained that families from a local community center had heard about Noah’s gift.
Inspired by him, they’d collected money to finish funding a weekend program for children with Down syndrome.

“When I was little,” she explained, “people told me I might never work, live alone, or marry.”
Lucy suddenly spun past them in her red dress.
Noah looked at his grandmother and smiled.
