For ten years, Daniel believed he was dying.
At 28, he’d received a devastating diagnosis and trusted the same doctor ever since. His life became pills, checkups, and counting how much time he had left.
Then he met Natalie, a widowed mother with a 10-year-old daughter, Carrie.
Daniel fell in love with both of them and began the process of adopting Carrie.
Three weeks before the wedding, Natalie died in a car accident.
Suddenly, Carrie had lost her mother, and Daniel became determined to become her legal father before his illness took him too.
Despite concerns about his prognosis, he fought through months of paperwork.
Finally, the adoption was approved.
Soon afterward, doctors told Daniel he might have only weeks left. He began writing letters for Carrie’s future birthdays, graduation, and other milestones he feared he’d never see.
Then came one final appointment.
His longtime doctor looked terrified.
“You aren’t dying,” he finally confessed. “You never were.”
Years earlier, the doctor had doubted Daniel’s original diagnosis but stayed silent. The medications Daniel had taken for a decade had actually made him sick.
Daniel returned home stunned.
Carrie and his sister were waiting outside.
He sat beside them and smiled.
“I’m not dying. I’m going to be around for a long time.”
Carrie leaned against him and whispered:
“Good. We weren’t done anyway.”
